‘Saving the Bird’s Nest’ is a story about a pub owner in Copenhagen, who mobilised the local community to fight for the preservation of a building — and won!
In the North West area of Copenhagen a rapid urban development process is taking place. The situation is triggering a conflict between those wishing to keep the local identity as it was, and those in favour of making a new one. It’s a classic conflict and a difficult dilemma, raising the question: Who has the power to define the city?
‘Saving the Bird’s Nest’ is a redistribution of the campaign ‘Saving the Bird’s Nest,’ that was initiated by the local community in North West in 2020, when they found out that the iconic pink building that housed the popular pub, ‘The Bird’s Nest,’ was set to be bulldozed in favour of more profitable youth houses. In ‘Saving the Bird’s Nest,’ we harvest and share the tactics and tools used by the community in their collective struggle to influence the future of their neighbourhood.
